The principle aim of Behaviour, Choices and Markets is to create a platform for a comprehensive investigation of behaviour and choice within markets and society. This is set within an all-embracing framework interpreted through the perspectives of economic and social science principles. Incentives and choice lie at the heart of human behaviour and through societal interactions can result in multitudinous market outcomes (national and international) often with far reaching consequences. Inherent within the project is an inter-disciplinary approach drawing upon fundamental social science methodologies. The outcomes of the project will generate knowledge and intellectual curiosity about the impact of behavioural interactions on the welfare of society.

Available studentships

The available studentships are:

Two PhD studentships exploring Energy Markets (one starting 2010, one starting 2011);
Two PHD studentships in Experimental Economics utilising the Scottish Experimental Economics Laboratory (one starting 2010, one starting 2011);
Two PhD awards within Labour Market Economics (one starting 2010, one starting 2011);
A one year Masters in Research (starting 2010) with a view to a PhD (starting 2011) investigating International Property Investment;
Two further MRes (starting 2011 and 2012) in Management Studies.

The Partnership for Governance Reform in Indonesia is a multi-stakeholder association dedicated to support and promote sustainable good governance initiatives. For this purpose The Partnership works closely with various stakeholders at the local, national and international levels.

Currently we have immediate vacancies for high caliber Indonesians with high integrity to fill

the following positions:

Program Assistant for Deepening Democracy Project (PA - DDP)
This position is available for 2 (two) person
Work location : Jakarta

Under
the guidance and supervision of the Program Officer, the Project
Assistant will be responsible to provide administrative support to the
program/projects team and she or he will be responsible to ensure
effective implementation of program/project activities as per the
agreed plan and budget by referring the recent Standard Operational
Procedures on administrative and financial services of the Partnership
for Governance Reform in Indonesia (PGRI). In executing the daily task
the Project Assistant will also cooperate with staff of finance
department of PGRI.

The Project Assistant must promote a client, quality and results- oriented approach in the Partnership.

Summary of Key Functions:
1. Preparation of projects implementation
2. Ensure quality of grantee / implementing partner financial and administrative compliance
3. Budgeting and Advance Settlement
4. Other required administration and clerical services

Recruitment Qualifications
1. Minimum of diploma in management/finance or other relevant field. Candidates with Bachelor’s degree are highly desired.
2.
Minimum of two years progressively in project administration and
experience in organizing many events, especially with government, civil
society organizations, and/or donor agencies. Having good communication
and interpersonal skill. Ability to work in highly pressured
environment. Having availability to carry out necessary travel
assignment. Having knowledge and skill to operate financial software
(SUN System, Quick Book, etc). Experience in the usage of computers and
office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc), advance knowledge of
automated procurement systems, experience in handling of web based
management systems.
3. Fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia.

SurfAid International is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the alleviation
of human

suffering through community-based health programs. We perform our work in isolated
regions connected to us through surfing and are professional, highly energized,
innovative and youthful in our outlook. Our main program areas are Community
Based Health, Emergency Preparation, Environmental Health (Water and Sanitation)
and Malaria prevention.

We are now seeking an Indonesian national as
Field Manager, with an in-depth understanding of community issues to be based
on the island of Nias, North Sumatera for our community based health program.
The Field Manager will report to the Progam Manager in Nias and 80% of the
incumbent’s work time will be spent in field locations.

The Field Manager’s tasks include:



·
Provision
of management and support to community facilitation training teams.

·
Planning
field training and workshops scheduled at the field level, and providing training
and mentoring for field staff.

·
Preparation
of monthly workplans and activity reporting matrixes and other regular field
reporting.

·
Assisting
with the training and capacity building of SurfAid program staff, primarily
SCFs and CFs.

·
Communication
with local stakeholders including district and sub-district government
authorities.

·
Conducting
regular monitoring and evaluation of field activities and visit field sites and
ensuring staff are conducting monitoring and filling in activity completion
reports.

·
Creating
and maintaining a data base of CHPB activities in the SurfAid target
implementation areas including playing a key role in local public health
forums.

Qualifications
Required:

The successful applicant will have:

Experience
in working with international NGOs

·
University
degree in Public Health, Social Sciences or Epidemiology

·
4 years + experience in field
management and program implementation

·
2
years + experience in community health based programs, hygiene and health
promotion

·
Experience in managing staff in
remote locations

·
Strong analytical and conceptual
skills

·
Experience with community-based media
and information campaigns

·
Experience in organising and
facilitating workshops

·
Skills in facilitating community
Focus Group Discussions and community meetings

·
Familiarity with monitoring and
evaluation tools and methodologies

·
Ability to communicate with a
wide range of stakeholders, including government officials, community members
and children

·
Excellent interpersonal and
communication skills and a commitment to working in a multidisciplinary and
multicultural environment

·
Excellent computing skills,
including word-processing and spreadsheet applications

·
Experience in administering
budgets

High personal standards,
political and religious sensitivity and possess the qualities of patience, tact

Papua Women’s Empowerment Project

Oxfam GB seeking expression of interest from relevant civil society organizations or individual to design and develop baseline data for Papua Women’s Empowerment Project (PAWE).
The Papua Women’s Empowerment Project, funded by the Japanese Social Development Fund, is designed to empower poor Papua Women by increasing their participation in the community driven development program (RESPEK) so that they are better able to benefit from the program. It will promote greater gender equality by supporting Papuan women to address their needs and priorities through;
i)strengthening existing women’s organization and networks to provide leadership, training, and advocacy to women at village level,
ii) building capacity of individual women through demand driven capacity building and training opportunities;
iii) building awareness and capacity of RESPEK project staff and other key stakeholders such as village leaders and government officials to promote greater gender equality.
Oxfam GB will manage the projects with the strategic support and guidance of a steering committee.
The selected CSO/organization/individual will be expected to design and develop baseline data of PAWE program in Papua in January till March 2010.
Criteria:
1. Have an experience to develop and design baseline data in Papua
2. Good understanding of the women project in Papua
3. Good understanding of the women group context in Papua
4. Demonstrated capacity and effectively design baseline dataSubmission should comply with the following:
1. Maximum three pages in length
2. Address the above criteria

    The Harvard Extension School is offereing an online undergraduate and graduate-level course focusing on the theme: "After Copenhagen, 2009" in the forthcoming Spring semester. This course is believed to be, in fact, the first university course to focus specifically on what the world community needs to do about the changing global climate now that the Copenhagen meetings have concluded. It will be accessible around the world through the Harvard Extension School's Sustainability and Environmental Management Program.

    Supported by the research resources of the Cambridge Climate Research Associates (CCRA), this 15-week long course will offer 2 hours a week of online lectures and extensive online multi-media support and research documentation for all students.

    The course focuses on the latest science of climate change as well as upon the social impact and diplomacy of our evolving global circumstance. Students, citizens and mid-career professionals with an enormous range of backgrounds have found this course to be very fruitful for their own work -- whether they are journalists, school-teachers, government officials, military personnel, business leaders, city planners, public health officers, etc -- or, in fact, graduate or undergraduate students at other institutions who have enrolled in this course to supplement their own degree work.

    This course is offered as part of a sequence of courses over the years of the "Climate Talks Project" (http://climate-talks.net/). The syllabus from the courses in previous years is available online, but the key feature of this new course will be its focus specifically upon the post-Copenhagen moment in the evolution of global climate understanding and action.

    Enrollment online is possible until 24 January and beyond that in extenuating circumstances.

The Global Xchange (GX) programme is an international voluntary exchange programme which provides a unique opportunity for young people from different countries and cultures to collaborate, to develop and share valuable skills and to make a practical contribution to local communities. For 4 months volunteers from Indonesia are paired up with a young person from the UK and get the chance to live and work in Britain and Indonesia.

In 2010 the Global Xchange programme (GX101) will take place in Yogyakarta (Indonesia) and Luton (UK). Once selected, each volunteer will be placed for two months in each city and not three months as in previous years. As a reciprocal programme, Yogyakarta will be the first host city in April with Luton completing the UK phase of the exchange in August 2010. To help facilitate the programme set-up and operation we will work in partnership with the Centre for Security of Peace Studies, University of Gadjah Mada.

We are currently recruiting suitable volunteers, aged 18-25, who are presently living in Yogyakarta. Candidates whose city of origin is different from Yogyakarta are eligible to apply but they must have lived in Yogyakarta for a minimum of two years so as to be able to orientate volunteers in the city. If selected the volunteer must be committed to complete all phases of the programme and abide by the Code of Conduct throughout the exchange.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Oxfam International Youth Partnerships Program - Applications Extended until February 12, 2010

Applications are now being accepted for Oxfam International Youth Partnerships until the 12th February 2010. Please pass this on to any young people (18-25 years old) you know who want to bring about positive change in their communities, are committed to working with others, and want to learn from other young people around the world. We also encourage more than one applicant from each organisation or community group.

OIYP is an Oxfam International initiative, managed by Oxfam Australia since 2000. OIYP strengthens young people’s ability to effect change in their community, and provides a base from which they can influence broader changes through engagement in a global network of over 1100 OIYP Action Partners. Through a 3 year Program, OIYP will provide opportunities and support for 300 new Action Partners so they may demonstrate leadership and expand the influence of youth for positive changes locally, nationally and globally.

To launch the 2010 – 2013 OIYP Program, Oxfam will host an 8 day Kaleidoscope event in November 2010 in New Delhi, India. At this event, Action Partners are given the opportunity to connect with people across regions and cultures that are facing similar challenges in their own communities. This allows for the chance for a cultural exchange, as well as the exchange of skills and knowledge building and planning on how young people can contribute to changes in their own lives as well as the lives of others in their communities. The following two years includes a variety of online and offline learning and development opportunities including face to face workshops, cultural immersion programs, e-workshops, online discussions and networking opportunities.

Who are we looking for?

Every 3 years OIYP goes through a rigorous process of recruiting and selecting a new group of 300 Action Partners. To be eligible to apply, applicants must be aged 18-25, able to speak English or Spanish conversationally and available to attend an 8 day event in November 2010, in New Delhi, India.

Core selection criteria:

• Commitment to finding new ways of working
• Evidence of commitment to positive, equitable and sustainable change
• Ability to explain their own understanding of the issues they’re working on
• A commitment to personal reflection and developing self awareness
• Community or organisational support

OIYP is open to all nationalities, Indigenous and ethnic groups. It is open to young people with any level of education and who live in rural or urban areas. We have a strong focus on the participation of Indigenous young people and those marginalised in their communities.

For the 2010 – 2013 OIYP Program, Oxfam is specifically targeting young people who:

• Are active on gender justice
• From communities impacted by climate change
• Living with a disability
• Using innovative means to influence decision makers (locally or nationally)
• Are from minority Indigenous groups

At this point, we will inform successful applicants (Action Partners) of how OIYP will support them to attend the OIYP Kaleidoscope 2010 event. There is a limited scholarship pool which will be allocated to support travel costs for many of the top selected Action Partners. However some Action Partners may be required to fundraise for travel costs, in these cases OIYP will provide support letters and training on fundraising. There is no registration fee for OIYP.
