Key Studentship Information
Project Title: Lowering the operating temperature of catalysts for diesel particulat destruction
Project Description: Current technologies for controlling the emission of particulate from diesel vehicles rely on the reaction of NOx with the carbon content of the particles. However, the exhaust produced by passenger cars is often not hot enough, or does not contain enough NOx, to remove all the particulate. The aim of this project will be to improve the performance of known catalysts for the alternative (but slower) C+O2 reaction, allowing it to take place at typical car-exhaust temperatures. The major challenge will be to understand the mechanism by which gas-phase O2 is activated by the catalyst and transferred to the particulate, before the practical problem of ensuring effective contact between the catalyst and the immobilised particulate can be addressed.

Funding
This is a Cardiff University President's Research Scholarship. The award includes full UK/EU tuition fees plus a doctoral stipend matching UK Research Council National Minimum (£13,590 p.a. for 2010/11, updated each year).

Overview

The Japan-IMF Scholarship Program for Asia (JISPA) was first introduced in 1993. It is funded by the Government of Japan, administered by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and conducted at various graduate schools in Japan Its objective is to contribute to institutional capacity building in economic policymaking to promote the sustainable growth of emerging and developing economies in Asia and the Pacific By training future macroeconomic managers in these countries, the JISPA aims to enable them to better formulate sound economic and financial stability policies needed for sustainable growth and development.

Partnership Track
The partnership track of the JISPA allows scholars to study a specially designed graduate level course concentrating on macroeconomics at an IMF partnership university The partnership universities are: • National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS): one-year and two-year programs• Hitotsubashi University: two-year program• International University of Japan (IUJ): two-year program• University of Tokyo (UT): two-year program.

The universities offer subjects that cover essential elements that will allow scholars to enter the macroeconomic policy dialogue at an international level All of the universities have a strong macroeconomic oriented focus on:

(1) macroeconomic policy formulation;

(2) central banking and monetary policy;

(3) financial markets and institutions They also offer various optional subjects that will allow scholars to pursue their particular interests, relevant to the topic of their master's thesis or policy research paper This thesis component is considered one of the most challenging and rewarding aspects of the program

The application deadline for the partnership track is December 10, 2011

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree from a recognized/accredited university and must satisfy the English language requirements with a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (CBT 213, iBT 79) or IELTS 6 0 A strong undergraduate background and/or evidence of experiences with public policy issues in economic management are also require.

What Scholarship Covers:
The scholarship covers tuition-related costs and most living expenses for the scholar herself/himself. Officials who receive the JISPA scholarship cannot accept other scholarships. Scholars are expected to devote full time to their studies while in Japan.

Background Organization and Programme:

The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an international non-governmental organization with a mission is to accompany, serve, and advocate the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people. JRS undertakes services at national and regional levels with the support of an international office in Rome. Founded in November 1980 as a work of the Society of Jesus, JRS programs are found in over 50 countries, providing assistance to refugees in refugee camps, to people displaced within their own country, and to asylum-seekers in cities and held in detention. The main areas of work in Indonesia are in the fields of Pastoral, Education, Advocacy and Social Services to asylum seekers and refugees in urban areas and immigration detention centers and IDPs.

JRS is also very much concerned with Advocacy and Human Rights work. This involves ensuring that refugees are afforded their full rights while in exile and during repatriation as guaranteed by the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees, and working to strengthen the protection afforded to Internally Displaced People (IDPs). It extends to lobbying for and promoting greater international protection and human rights legislation, either through participation in international campaigns and coalitions or through membership of international for a, such as the UN Economic and Social Committee (ECOSOC).

Assistant National Programme Officer required qualifications & experience:

Have academic backgrounds of law, humanitarian and social science or other related disciplines;
Have experiences in social works / NGOs accompanying people who seek refuge and have limitation in freedom of movement;
Have experiences and skills as facilitator, moderator and motivator;
Have experiences as a team coordinator;
Have experiences in program/project cycle management;
High ability in communication with team and people whom he/she serves;
Be willing and motivated to learn more about asylum and refugee issues and rights;
Excellent knowledge, understanding and empathy with IDPs and refugees in all settings;
Knowledge of Sphere standards, humanitarian charter and NGO code of conduct is preferable;
Have excellent English and Indonesian skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing;
Good flexibility, creative and high motivated;
Ability to work in a team;
Knowledge of basic Microsoft programs is a must;
Mature and well prepared to work in demanding conditions and able to work under pressure and high frequency of mobility;
Indonesian nationality.

Communication Officer required Qualifications and Experience:

General

· Demonstrated ability and experience of working in the context of forced migration and human rights;

· Proven capacity to work in an international team and in a multicultural environment;

· Willingness to work and travel extensively and live in simple conditions;

· Demonstrated ability to train others in the relevant areas of information & communication;

Specific

· Essential: educated to degree level, preferably a graduate in journalism, a social science or international relations and/or human rights;

· journalistic/media experience, preferably in the field of humanitarian affairs, is a must;

· Essential: experience in writing and documentation, preferably on issues of human rights and forced migration;

· Essential: excellent written and verbal communication skills in Indonesian & English and ability to edit raw material;

· Ability to write in different styles: press releases/statements, analytical reports, news stories, features, appeals, and others;

· Essential: demonstrated ability in networking, diplomacy and negotiation, possessing appropriate cultural and political sensibilities;

· Computer proficient with a basic knowledge of html programmes and an ability to learn other design and web programmes;

· Preferably with knowledge on IT & database management;

· Indonesian nationality.

Legal Officer Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

1. Legal degree from an accredited law school;

2. Some experience in providing general legal advice to asylum seekers and refugees is an advantage;

3. Fluency in English, both written and oral;

4. Ability to exercise sound legal judgment, well organized, self-motivated and reliable with a strong interest in international human rights;

5. A pleasant personality and compassion for refugees, asylum seekers, displaced people;

6. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;

7. Demonstrated ability to work in a team as well as individually;

8. Computer skills including Microsoft Office;

9. Proficiency in other Asian languages is an added advantage, e.g. Tamil, Urdu, Farsi, etc.

Job description

The Delft Technology Fellowship offers high-profile, tenure-track positions to top female scientists in research fields in which Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) is active. As a fellow you will be offered the unique chance to establish your own research programme of international repute, including generous start-up funding. The five-year fellowships are awarded at the Assistant, Associate or full Professor level.

Requirements

You are a highly talented and motivated pioneer holding a PhD in a relevant discipline, with the ambition necessary to become a full Professor. You have a proven drive for scientific excellence demonstrated, for example, by publications in first-rate, international scientific journals, the ability to compete for external research funding and an extensive international network. You have a few years of post-doctoral working experience in research groups in industry or academia, preferably including experience outside of the Netherlands.

Depending on your level of experience you either are, or have the clear potential to develop into, an academic leader who guides and inspires her group. You have excellent communication and social skills, a coaching leadership style and experience in supervising research projects. You are self-critical and able to align your personal ambition with being an inspiring member of a team of first-rate colleagues.

You have educational experience and an affinity for teaching, as you are expected to participate in and contribute to the development of the department's teaching programme.

The fellowship programme is open to scientists currently not employed by TU Delft.

Conditions of employment

You will have the opportunity to take part in the exciting tenure-track development programme. An informal mentoring scheme will be in place to help you get to know the university and the Dutch (research) environment. You will also be able to participate in a university-wide introduction programme.

Depending on the level of your experience, as well as your current academic position, you will be offered a position at the assistant, associate or full professor level. Following a positive evaluation at the end of (a maximum of) 5 years, you will be awarded tenure. From that moment on, you will follow the regular career path for scientists at Delft University of Technology.

The salary of the Assistant Professor is based on scale 11 or 12 (maximum € 4970 gross per month) with a fellowship starting grant of € 100.000. The salary of the Associate Professor is based on scale 13 or 14 (maximum € 5920 gross per month) with a fellowship starting grant of € 200.000. The salary for a full professor is € 7.142 (based on scale H2) up to € 8.622 (based on scale H1) with a fellowship starting grant of € 300.000.
